So Jessica Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson have welcomed baby Maxwell Drew Johnson into the world, “Us Weekly” confirms.  This is the first child for the couple.  “Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby Maxwell Drew Johnson, 9 pounds, 13 ounces.  We are so grateful for all of the love, support, and prayers we have received.  This has been the greatest experience of our lives!” Simpson wrote on her office website earlier this week.

Simpson, 31, and Johnson, 32, got engaged back in November of 2010 – after dating for only six months.  The pair – who have not yet set a wedding date – planned to hold off the nuptials until after the arrival of their baby. 

Apparently heading down the aisle wasn’t a huge priority for the singer and her former NFL player beau, with Simpson telling Jimmy Kimmel back in March that Johnson “feels like my husband already.”

Chiming in where it wasn’t needed, comedian Kathy Griffin put her two cents in on the name choice of the new Simpson baby.  “The nickname Maxi reminds me of a feminine napkin or a long dress that was popular in Gloria Steinem’s era, but Max I can live with.  Believe me, she would’ve heard from me if it was a fruit or a vegetable or a kind of wallpaper of whatever these crazy celebrities are doing.”
